BEAUTY Contest Update
i was rooting for Miss Philippines to get into the top 15. Unfortunately she didn't. Naturally being Filipino I would support her. also because of the fact that we study in the same law school in Manila. It's a good thing she won the Miss Photogenic award despite what nasty detractors on the net are saying that it was all cooked up by Filipinos on the net. they should get a life.
Anyways, I would just like to say how beautiful Miss Korea, Honey Lee is. It has been a long time since I have seen such a truly beautiful face. She should be immortalized. Asian pa. of my own race :-) she is a true beauty. I also heard she's also very smart and majors in traditional Korean music if im not mistaken. Hollywood should take notice of her and cast her as an actress :-) Ive not seen Happiness written all over a face that is so sweet and beautiful at the same time.

countryside with Uncle Sael
Just got back yesterday from Eureka, CA. Rural America with lots of hillybillies and no Asians except for the very very few who managed to go there. Laotians mostly. No Filipinos except I think for my uncle and his wife who have their business there.
Rural America is the real America which we only rarely glimpse. People in Eureka which is situated in Humboldt county are of German or Scandinavian descent. If you walk into a grocery or a local Costco, chances are you are the only black haired person there aside from a few brunettes who are also white. Yes, people there do look at me. I look different. I have very very black hair. Hehe...:-)
I observed that although it was an all-caucasian city, they were glad and curious about different races coming to visit their place.If only they knew how curious a sight it would be for me in Manila to see very blond and blue eyed people (aside from the tourists and expats). In my case, I seemed like I wasn't a tourist because I was with my Uncle whom I think they know. It's a pretty small place. Everyone knows everybody. They even think my uncle Sael is Samoan or something. Most of them don't even know the Philippines exists. Hello! get a world map.
I enjoyed the peace of the countryside. It's not like San Francisco and the surrounding suburban areas here in the bay area. There time stands still. Cows and pastures, farms, Victorian houses stuck in time. I also saw there that America also has its homeless, and those who need help because of drug abuse but I also saw there that the US Gov't. helps these people to the best of its ability to the extent of giving these people welfare vouchers for a night or two at an inn or something and for food. According to my uncle, these druggies and derelicts are children of rich people who bussed themselves into their town from some other major US city.
Suddenly, there, I felt that here in America the value of a human life is so high compared to what it is from where I come from. Here everything is by the book. The rules are followed. If you follow the rules, no problem.
these people abuse the system by buying more prohibited substances and living on the streets instead of cleaning themselves up and finding a suitable occupation.In short, they live off the very wealthy Government of the United States of America and believe me, in my mind, this is only in America.

The Weimaraner is a thinking creature, being of a proud and dominant nature himself, he can quickly discover who in the family has a similar character and he, or quite often she, will receive the utmost in respect and devotion. Likewise, he is intolerant of weaklings and will probably treat them with contempt.
WHERE DID HE COME FROM?
Before going any further, let us consider a little about the history of this magnificent breed. The Weimaraner is one of the Hunt, Point and Retrieve sub-group within the Gundog Group. An all-purpose breed whose temperament and character is quite dissimilar to that of other gundogs.
The Weimaraner originated in the province of Weimar, Germany, 130 miles Southwest of Berlin. The earliest date recorded in the history of the development of the breed is the year 1810, Grand Duke Karl August had a tremendous effect on the cultural advancement of the territory over which he reigned; and especially the city of Weimar, which became the centre of German art and literature. It is believed that the Weimaraner dog was developed under the direction of the nobles of his court, but the records of the history of the breed during the following fifty years cannot be traced. Neither has any definite record been found to trace the ancestry of the breed or to prove the path of its development.
Weimaraners were used in Germany and in Austria for tracking wounded wild boar and stag, as well as upland game. Their owners required a dog with courage, a keen nose and sharp eye, which would point and retrieve, be obedient to recall under all conditions and ready to take to water when necessary.
WHAT IS HE?
Even today, Weimaraners retain these traits and, as a breed, respond readily to intelligent handling. They are willing and sensitive and have a great desire to please their owners to whom they become deeply attached. They make an excellent housedog and adapt to the children of the family if brought up in their company from puppyhood. To describe the unique temperament and qualities of a Weimaraner to someone who has never known one is a difficult task. Because of their total devotion to their owners, gone are the days of going to the toilet by yourself. They can be aloof, cool, almost snobbish towards strangers. Only to have spent some time with a Weimaraner can one really appreciate the breed.
Highly intelligent, at times tending to be more human in nature than canine, is an accurate description. Coupled with their intelligence is their ability to be demanding, strong-willed and possessive. Once you have established you are boss, they are an extremely devoted, responsive friend and companion with an uncanny ability to almost talk with their beautiful amber eyes and expressions. They feel they are and should be a part of the family and, because of this, a Weimaraner will fret badly when parted from them especially if left alone for many hours during the day, showing his disapproval by being noisy, destructive or both.
Although they possess a strong guarding instinct, the breed is not a Guard Dog as such, but more a companion dog, which will guard you. He does not need a large garden, only a well fenced one, i.e. 6ft high, but he requires not only free-running and disciplined exercise, but also to have his brain exercised as well. With careful, patient training, he must learn the rules of your household not the ones he makes up for himself. He is a strange mixture of wilfulness and sensitivity. Too harsh an approach and he will 'blank out', seemingly unable to understand the simplest requirement. Too much leeway and he will do his own thing in a way that will not amuse you. Under exercised, unoccupied and bored, he can wreak havoc. Jaws such as his can make light work of the happy home and he is quite capable of re-arranging your landscape, introducing a tasteful tunnel or a cavern with very little apparent effort. We have adapted him to our requirements in this country primarily to work as a rough-shooter's dog. As a companion, we must remember, understand and respect his heritage.

A Weimaraner needs your time, patience and understanding. Be kind but firm from the beginning; let him know exactly where he stands in the pecking order at the bottom! Do not have a physical confrontation with him (you will probably loose!). Take him to training classes, socialise him in as many and varied situations as possible, and be consistent. Firm handling does not mean harsh handling. THINK DOG and learning to read your dog will be the first step to a long and happy relationship.
Everything about this beautiful animal, the Weimaraner, is an element of challenge. He is such a 'get up and go' creature possessed of a quick intelligence, an abundance of energy, a drive to hunt, a streak of possessiveness and an exaggerated devotion which has to be tempered to the demands of modern living. He is not every man's dog, nor a commercial proposition, but the rewards of taking on such a challenge are immense.

thoughts on a mundane Friday
i didn't get much sleep last night. called Manila and ran into some annoying inefficiency. someone forgot to do something I usually take care of when Im there. Aaarghh...
Now on to another topic. Im not into beauty contests. Not not so. I think they're shallow aside from their entertainment value. period.
As I again wish to reiterate from one of my blog entries last year referring to no one in particular (i was just noticing cultural differences in Manila and abroad), people shouldn't be judged by the way they look and the way they talk which is so much what it is in the Philippines. its not all about appearances. you may look 'it' but you are not 'it'. people can get judgmental on you by the color of your skin, where you come from, by what you wear, where you go..geeezzz...give the thing a break...ok sorry I know even my family tells me Im Miss Demographics. I tend to compare people's behaviors in the different places I go to. It's fun to be observant though :-)
This week has been fruitful. I was able to do a whole lot of things. I finished my Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell book, that thick 800 page saga book, i ate super good food on Monday and Tuesday of this week, got a good lawyer for sumthn (surprise!) can't tell :-)

A summary of this year: schoolyear '06-'07
well, this year was wonderful. After summer of 2006 when I was very very inspired by several things which I can't mention here because I might blush fuschia pink (not something malandi ok...one thing you should know about me, hindi ako mahilig sa guys..hehe...i'm not a dyke either ok...i'm really a girl!) many things that i'm so proud of regarding our business, my family, myself, I entered my 4th year of law school. Eventually I saw that I had really adjusted to law school stuff na. I could be prepared for class without writing down anything not like before in my lower years. I noticed that the best law students don't write much but read and digest what they have read. Thanks to the help of my friends here in SF, I started getting fitter..! and loving all that wonderful music they shared with me. :-) I got a new car which I liked very much and became more definite with Al.
Ironically this school year was also the most difficult of my stay in UP Law. I took a lot of my back subjects like Agency and Civ Pro. To top it all, I had a terror prof for Evidence and Civ Pro. I'm sure this prof's reputation as very strict is well known amongst the students. I think the year would have been easier if I took these subjects under another prof but I really opted for this prof. sometimes we are just masochistic.

just today
am now in San Francisco. hanging around my mom's Dental office. playing with this computer. like it here a lot. seeing patients treated, going to Starbucks to buy coffee which is just 3 blocks up the El Camino, reading my novels here and there. Am proud of my mom. She's living proof that a person can have a 'bookish' type of profession and still not over-intellectualize and yet still manage her time well and be a genuinely good God fearing person. Meaning: her profession is just a part of her and not all of HER. She juggles her business, her being a dentist, ortho, a wife and a mom and a friend to her many friends quite well with a very cheery demeanor. I wish I could be like that but mukhang hindi. Mahirap ako patawanin compared to my mom who seems to be in summer wonderland all the time.
Even Al, my hub-fiancee tells me that I should try to be more cheery. But I am! hindi lang talaga katulad nila. :-)
However, these are things that bring an instant smile to my face and if not my face then my heart Haha! :-)

b. seeing Al and just being with Al and talking with Al, feeling that Al is thinking of me...hehe..
